retro boulder apt

retro boulder apartment living room

This view may have you suspicious of a little Photoshop magic, but I can assure you that it is very real and very pretty in my friend Caroline’s apartment. She lives in beautiful Boulder, CO with her man, Ryan, and together they’ve brought out the best of their fabulously retro space. When I was greeted by a fully mirrored entryway and original parquet flooring, I knew I was in for a treat.

Their sprawling living room is decked out in midcentury modern furniture with clean lines and a minimalist vibe, yet still feels super comfy and inviting. I love how these floating pieces work together to create a cozy room within a room. And the earthy textures seem to be the perfect balance to their jewel-toned blues and greens, which totally brings the outdoors in for me.

But my favorite part about Caroline and Ryan’s home is that everything they own serves a purpose, including their meticulously curated bar cart and vintage record player. These things are not just decor, but great examples of form meeting function for this very hip couple’s inspiring lifestyle ;)

P.S. They also served us French press coffee every morning (which my Ryan and I are now completely addicted to)… Thanks so much for having us, Caroline and Ryan!! Now it’s your turn to visit us in SD xoxo

Two of my three favorite people, captured in their natural habitat. This is where my babies are most comfortable and relaxed. At home, in their playroom, wild and free to be themselves. It was as if my camera wasn’t even there.

I’m always looking for natural settings, real life moments, and authentic smiles. Over time I’ve realized how much our moods are affected by environment. Photos simply look better when people (and furbabies) are genuinely happy, feel safe, and know what to expect. As photographer, I’m invited on their turf and leave as a new friend – well, still just mommy in this case ;) But it leaves kids feeling somewhat in control and excited to show me their favorite toys, backyard, etc.

pretty pink bedroom

little girl's pink bedroom

After collecting all of my main level interior shots of this BEAUTIFUL east coast craftsman home, I found myself capturing every little detail in one of the bedrooms upstairs. The princess pink walls could transport anyone to a fairytale land, but it is absolutely perfect for Miss Fiona. The little girl who sleeps here is so full of life, color, and sugar-coated sweetness, it just couldn’t be more fitting. Scroll down for more cotton-candy cloud dreams:

weekending in boulder, co

boulder, co

Last month Ryan, Bryn, and I hopped on a flight to Colorado to visit friends who have become family over the years. We spent the weekend in Boulder, an adorable bubble that we even considered moving to for half a second. It is so beautiful and clean, the air feels extra fresh (maybe it’s just the altitude), but the people are super friendly and it just has this relaxed vibe that makes you feel so welcome.

We ate a lot of great food (which was #1 on my agenda), did a little hiking and talked into the wee hours of the night (well, at least for my standards these days!). I met Caroline in 2006 when I was looking for a roommate on Craigslist. We ended up living together in the cutest apartment a block away from Mission Bay in San Diego, a place that I still miss and sometimes drive by just to reminisce ;)

Although Caroline and I have lived in different states now for almost 8 (!) years, we’ve managed to stay as close as ever, mainly because Caro is queen of keeping in touch ;) Forget Facebook, she goes out of her way to plan real phone dates for us to catch up, which I totally appreciate because I can easily get caught up in the daily things that simply are NOT as important as chatting with your best girlfrand.

It 100% warms my heart to see the instant connection between Caroline and Bryn. B had the best time running around with her auntie (aka stealing Caro’s purse), and I’m so happy I was able to squeeze in a few pics of them together.

Caroline has always been the hostess with the mostest. She and her bf, Ryan, took such great care of us, showing us around town and making us feel super comfortable in their home. I’ll be sharing a few shots of their amazing apartment next week so stay tuned!

north park walk with dad

We love our evening strolls through the hood, but I can’t really tell who’s leading the way anymore. Luckily Ryan seems to have his crew under control ;)

Thank you, babe, for taking such good care of us, for always making us laugh, and showing us what patience looks like. You’re the one Bryn calls for in the morning. The one who can transfer sleeping beauty from carseat to crib without a hitch. She can barely breathe whenever you walk through the front door. I’m still convinced you’re her favorite…

And we all know that Obi would literally die without his papa. Happy Father’s Day, babe!! We all love you so, so much.
