A few more details from the cute airbnb in North Park that I shared earlier. The front porch and outdoor living space make this getaway feel so private. I love a good secret spot where I can forget about the outside world for a little while.

BABE CHILL MAMA

chill mama : sarah aprea

The Chill Mama is an interview series featuring bold and beautiful mothers. Each month, I reach out to an amazing woman who loves her babies fiercely but also believes in the power of self care. I’m always interested in hearing her unique story and how she keeps her cool on a daily basis – because in all honesty, I need all the inspiration I can get ;)

What does a typical day look like for you?

Maya started Kindergarten this year so our days start by getting her ready, packing her lunch and walking to school. It’s nice to start the day off with a little walk! When I get home I have my morning coffee and breakfast in peace and quiet, or if it’s a Wednesday morning I catch up on “This Is Us” on Hulu. If it’s a work day for me which is less frequent in the winter, I spend my day editing photo sessions, marketing and organizing. In my down time I now have the flexibility to grocery shop on a week day without a child in tow! I love my Trader Joe’s trips alone, something so small is so much easier to do now. In the afternoon I pick Maya up and we walk home, we have snack and do home work together and spend the afternoon until dinner time working on crafts and playing with legos, Littlest Pet Shops and creating Thomas the Train tracks. My husband is the chef in our home so I tend to prep dinner and he creates the masterpiece! After bedtime for Maya around 7, I tend to wrap up work items, email clients and just get comfortable. I love to wind down with episodes of “The Office” or a great book.

What does a dream day look like for you? Think unlimited time and $$$!

My dream days are at the beach swimming all day in perfect waves (with childcare covered).

How do you chill?

On Saturday mornings I take an adult painting class for 3 hours, it’s amazing. We listen to relaxing music and there is little to no distraction. I’m terrible but I love it!

What inspires you?

Seeing beauty in everything, I’m always thinking of what I could turn into art.

Describe your labor + delivery experience in a nutshell (if that’s even possible).

I had preeclampsia and a 4 day induction at 36 weeks! When labor finally started I didn’t have to push long, it felt so fast I thought she was born on Christmas day but she was born just after midnight! Labor was natural other than necessary magnesium for my blood pressure. I’m glad she ended up with her own day rather than on Christmas.

What would you say to your pre-mama self?

Ask for help! We didn’t have a lot of help when Maya was born and she was so colicky. I wish we hadn’t been so stubborn and had just hired help a few hours a day, even a few hours a week to look forward to.

Besides your lovies, what’s the one thing you couldn’t live without?

My kitties!

If you could hop on the next flight, where would you go? With or without the littles?

Back to San Diego! Kind of kidding, I’m itching to get to Mexico, I’d love to go to Tulum. A new photography retreat center is opening there soon!

What are you listening to these days?

If I’m not listening to mainstream pop radio stations I’m stuck in my old ways. I still listen to Death Cab for Cutie and Counting Crows when I’m chilling at home.

What is the last book you read?

“Townie” by Andre Dubus III

And the last thing you ate?

We just finished juicing kiwi, apples, strawberries, celery and carrots so I snacked on that and had a delicious glass of it. Maya loves to juice and it gets her eating healthy foods.

Early bird or night owl?

Night owl

Coffee or tea?

Coffee

Dogs or cats?

Cats

If you could leave us with one bit of #momlife advice, what would it be?

Just relax, do your own parenting thing. Be supportive of other moms without the judgement because it really is hard enough!

Thanks so much, Sarah! I loved having the chance to catch up while you and your sweet family were visiting San Diego. Maya is such a little love and just seeing you two together makes me so excited about the years to come with my own daughter (I’m also looking forward to those solo trips to Trader Joe’s!).

I really love how you unwind with a weekend painting class. I signed up for something similar a few years back and would love to go again, especially now as a mama. It’s a great way to get out of your own head and create something, pretty or not ;)

And of course, your words of wisdom could not speak clearer to me, “Just relax, do your own parenting thing.” This statement is so simple yet says so much. It really comes down to the fact that we’re all learning as we go, finding what works for us and our kids, so there’s really no room for criticism or judgement. Just do you, mamas! xo

WANDERLUST

seattle

seattle-1seattle-2seattle-3seattle-4seattle-5seattle-6seattle-7seattle-8seattle-9seattle-10seattle-11seattle-15seattle-12

Just a few snippets from our trip to Seattle last September. We always make the same pit stops at Fisherman’s Wharf, Ivar’s, and the Public Market. It was weirdly warm and sunny this visit and I was kind of hoping for that that moody PNW weather. San Diegans need a change too sometimes ;)

Anyway, I loved this weekend away with my little family – I’ll always remember it because we had just found out that I was pregnant, yet my morning sickness hadn’t taken over my body yet. Just that new baby bliss on my mind, nobody else knew but us, imagining what he/she would be like, etc. <3
