hardwood herringbone

Hardwood floors are at the top of my list of dream home essentials, adding that WOW factor the second you walk in. They’re natural, shiny and easy to clean. And these interlocking slabs give me the perfect excuse to hunt down a gorgeous area rug. But throw a pattern like herringbone into the mix, and I might just skip rugs altogether. Who would want to cover up such a beautiful design? Diagonal lines zig-zagging for days; chevron at it’s best.

Growing up, my bedroom had hardwood floors, but at the time I was not impressed – probably because it wasn’t herringbone status. I just remember begging my parents for wall-to-wall carpeting because the floor “was too cold on my feet”. Yes, things got pretty chilly during those Massachusetts winters, but I still cannot believe my parents caved! They actually agreed to mask that classic flooring. 10 years later, my mom finally came to her senses, ripped everything up and had my original bedroom floor buffed to perfection. Thank god! Who did I think my 5 year old self was?

I guess hardwood floors are an acquired taste for some…

  • I absolutely love herringbone floors! Go so well with either more classic interiors and also minimalist Scandinavian ones. Pearl of every interior!
