accent rug love

Rugs, textiles, and patterns of any kind have been catching my eye more than ever lately. I’m really getting into graphic textures and styles combined with modern pieces. The balance of the two create something ‘neatly eclectic’. Rugs especially, offer such a comfy-cozy vibe. I love how they can pull an entire room together, building a bridge between mix + match furniture and/or color schemes. Someone once told me that any given space should be designed from the floor up. So finding that perfect rug would be a great place to start.

I was hoping our new apartment would have hardwood floors so I’d have an excuse to bring home a million different rugs. But no, we have plain beige carpeting, wall to wall :(

However, during my last trip to World Market, I came across rug # 3. That Ikat pattern jumped right out at me, weaving in and out of my favorite neutrals – I just had to have it! Even though I’m not a big fan of layering rugs over carpet, I was determined to find a spot for my new addition. And I did. It just happened to be on the wall, not the floor… After trying several different arrangements, I couldn’t help but think it just looked like a towel lying under the coffee table. So in the end, I found this 3×5 accent rug was light enough to hang above our fireplace with standard thumbtacks (meaning it hasn’t come crashing down yet).

Maybe I’ll share a few pics of our place… As soon as it starts feeling just the right amount of ‘neatly eclectic’.
