coconut sea salt beach waves

We may be moving into a chillier season, but summer beach waves will always look good to me. And they seem to work even better with unwashed hair, so this mermaid style is perfect for the lazy girl (me!). Try this quick Homemade Beauty recipe and give your locks a taste of island life, all without ever leaving the house.

Coconut Sea Salt Beach Waves

1/2 cup coconut milk
1/2 cup distilled water
1 tablespoon sea salt

1 teaspoon unrefined virgin coconut oil

Over low heat, warm coconut milk and water in a small saucepan. Add coconut oil and sea salt and stir together until everything dissolves. Let mixture cool, then pour into a spray bottle. Spray on damp hair and allow it to air dry. Go out and dazzle everyone without shame.

As summer begins to wind down, so does my tolerance for the big bad sun. Floppy sun hats have saved the day (and my face + shoulders) from those UV rays that sunscreen just can’t always keep up with. Plus, they’re chic and allow for incognito trips to the beach.

Master this breezy babe look and protect your skin in style.

anthropologie faves 03

Wouldn’t it be nice to stock up on all new clothing + accessories each season? For me, Anthropologie would be the way to go – it’s an easy one stop shop.

Anthro doesn’t mess around when it comes to their target market – I pretty much love EVERYTHING… Just narrowing down my favorites for this post was tricky enough and my online shopping cart is full. Again. Check out my past favorites from Spring 2014 and Summer 2015, all of which I would still buy in a heartbeat today.

stoned immaculate

My goal as a photographer will always be to capture a feeling, create a familiar vibe, or reinterpret a memory for myself or someone else. When designlovefest shared this particular lookbook by clothing brand, Stoned Immaculate, I totally felt something.

I mean, it was that sultry, hazy, sunset glow that lured me to Southern California in the first place – a dreamworld that I believed to be stuck in best kind of time warp. Even though I wasn’t born until the 80’s, these images still feel nostalgic to me in some way. Maybe it reminds me of flipping through photos of my mom in her heyday, or maybe 70’s style is just that good.

Whatever the draw may be, Stoned Immaculate nails it every time. I literally want everything from this vintage threads collection. Retro-glam, California dreamin’…

summer beauty

To me, true summer beauty is all about low-maintenance tousled beach waves and casual style all around. Bare skin with a natural sun-kissed glow, maybe a subtle berry lip tint but little to no eye makeup.

However, summer or not, I’ve decided to forego makeup altogether. Even though I probably need it more than ever with these under-eye circles (thanks, Bryn!), I just completely skip that part of my day now. This change in routine is partly due to less time and energy, but mostly because of the benefits I discovered shortly after going au naturale.

My skin has never felt better – brighter, fresher, clearer, and sometimes it’s even glowing, or so I’ve been told ;) It was a little scary going out naked-faced at first, but I got used to it, and love not having to deal with war paint unless it’s a VERY special occasion.

If you’re feeling curious, summer is probably the best time to try ditching the blush brush. Because really, who wants to cake on foundation in 90* weather?! Take advantage of this humidity and rock a dewy, just-came-back-from-the-beach-look. Give your pores a break for once, and let that beautiful skin breathe, woman!

If you wear makeup daily, I would love for you to try going without for one full week, or at least 72 hours. And just to hold you over, here’s a quick fix to brighten up those dark circles I mentioned before:

Tired Eye Peach Fix

1/2 medium ripe peach
1 teaspoon aloe vera

Dice the peach (skin included), then mash it into a paste. Add the aloe vera and mix well. Spread the mixture under your eyes and turn up your favorite playlist. Chill out for about 20 mins, then rinse. Continue to treat yoself with any of these additional organic beauty tricks – your bare skin will eat them right up.

Whether you complete the naked-face challenge or not, I’d love to hear what you think!!

Good luck, mama!

P.S. If you’re not 100% on board, here are a few more reasons why going au naturale could work in your favor.

To be completely honest, I wear a tank top and boy shorts to bed every night, nothing lacy or frilly like these sexy little numbers, but they just keep popping up in my Pinterest feed! So I rounded up my favorites and loved how all the colors and textures looked together. I may just have to spruce things up over here…
